Bensonhurst Parade Reserve, Point Cook
A master plan for a thriving community
If we learnt anything from our time in lockdown, it’s that we need open spaces to play, train and meet to thrive. It’s a concept that hit home with Wyndham City Council, who developed a master plan committed to improving the municipality’s sports and recreational assets for the local community.
The council’s vision was to create a multi-use space in the growing suburb of Point Cook in Melbourne’s southwest, where locals could gather to take part in senior, junior or school sports competitions, or more informal recreational games.
The first cab off the rank was the massive development of Bensonhurst Parade Reserve, with a vast array of facilities to satisfy even the biggest sports nut.

Expert capability leads the way
Seven tennis courts. Four soccer fields. Two cricket ovals. One multipurpose court for basketball, netball and tennis. And a bocce area. Bensonhurst Parade Reserve is one of Joslyn Group’s biggest projects to date.
What got us over the line in a competitive tender process? Our expert capabilities and project management skills, our business's financial stability and size (we have close to 30 staff) and, importantly, the fact that we own our machinery. We were big enough to complete the work but small enough to oversee every detail of the project – and we collaborated closely with Wyndham City Council to make Bensonhurst Parade Reserve a success.
Into the unknown
The site hadn’t been developed before, meaning it was just one massive open paddock with no connected power.
The development was a major logistical and traffic control operation, with soft ground conditions seeing us truck in 70,000 cubic metres of soil to the site. At our recommendation, any soil that had to be removed was ameliorated with organic material and reused on site, saving it from entering landfill.
The groundworks also created considerable dust – which was a particular issue as the site is located in a residential area, right next to a popular playground. To offset this, water trucks were in constant use to keep the dust at bay.
Throughout the process – from starting the earthworks to building the synthetic cricket batting cages, cushioned acrylic tennis courts and natural turf fields, and planting trees – the wild and wet Melbourne wreaked havoc on schedules. But despite the magnitude of the project, our team's skills and experience meant we were able to maintain our timeline – and gain a happy client.
Living up to expectations
Once a wide-open paddock, Bensonhurst Parade Reserve is now home to an array of premium sports facilities and recreational spaces for the local Point Cook community. And we’re proud to have built it for them.
